The Gift of Gab

S
(Hosea 14:2) Take with you words and return to the Lord; say to Him, “Take away all iniquity; accept what is good....”

O
As we return our attention, affections and will back to the Lord (for some, it’s a first-time turning), God requires us to bring our carefully selected words. This planning enables us to prepare our hearts to worship God (2 Chronicles 12:14; 26:14; 27:6; John 4:23, 24). This carefulness includes coming eagerly with a childlike freedom of expression.

A
Why bring words to God? He already knows our thoughts (Psalm 94:11; 139:4). It’s because words matter. Words represent our unique perspectives. Presenting our words to Him organizes our will and understanding. Therefore, as Scripture prescribes, I will also shout to God with loud songs of joy (Psalm 47:1) and I will sing praises to the Lord, who sits enthroned among His people (Psalm 9:11).

P
To You, Lord, “I will declare my iniquity, [that] I am sorry for my sin” (Psalm 38:18). I come to You to reason together with You (Isaiah 1:18). Because of this gift of opportunity, I can rejoice and brag about Your redemption all day, every day. Help not only to choose pleasing and fruitful words, but to become better at listening when I’m conversing with You.
